New activity to try

My boyfriend kyle wants to take me rock climbing. He suggested we take a course and then go on a climbing adventure. I don't know how I feel about that. It would be something fun to give a try but, i don't knoooooooooooooowwwww! I don't know if I would feel comfortable. It feels like a high intensity sport, and that stuff freaks me out. On a different note, I would absolutely love to go back to the kootenays, and go tubing down the river. I did it last year and it was my all time favorite highlight of the summer. You need to come prepared. Slap some sunscreen on, pack some refreshments ( wink wink) :) brink a waterproof camera, an umbrella, and a huge awesome hightech tube!!:D To anyone that has never tried before, it is an absolute blast. The scenery is great, and it is just food for the soul.

goal achievement

My personal goal for P.E class is to lose an inch and a half off my lower abs. I think this a realistic goal but it will equire 100% commitment and determination. Seeing as I have recently began workoing out regularly, i now need to regulate my eating habits. TO be a little more specific when it comes to me working out again, my plan is to:

-Participate to my full potential in P.E class ( big emphasis on the walk up the dreaded 10th street hill)
-Knowing that our vancouver weather is very unreliable, I will include an alternating routine over 2 days. Day 1: jog for 45 min
Day 2: Use the gym and do cardio + weight training for 90 min

NOW, the difficult part is watching my food intake and sticking to my nutritional plan. Referring back to my "Food Matters" post, i have decided that all my meals will consist of a minimum of 51% raw food. Also, I came to the conclusion that I do not hydrate myself enough. Here is a more comprehendable list of nutritional tachtics:
- A MINIMUM of  2L of water / day ( 8 glasses)
- A MINIMUM of 5 fruits / day
- A MINIMUM of 3 vegetables /day
NO JUNK FOOD!!!! ok maybe on sundays..BUT OTHERWISE BETTER NOT CATCH MYSELF WITH A FRIED POTATO IN MY HAND*)W&*$Y^U*#QW^YUT%R$R#@@!@!!
As far as all other foods, If i don't feel guilt eating it then I can certainly eat it.

This is what I had set as my personal goal at the beginning of the term. I definitely trimmed  a little bit off my lower section and toned my abdominal muscles. I feel much more confident as it is summer time and it is bikini season. I didn't get to use the gym as often as I planned to, but that was circumstantial. I didn't spend a lot of time at my parents' house where the gym is, and could not commit to paying for a gym membership. However, I improved my jogging skills and even learned to love it.

I also did a major improvement to my diet. I don't think I have ever drank this much water in my lifetime. I made a constant effort of always having a bottle or cup all throughout the day. Maintaining a minimum of 51% raw food in every meal was surprisingly easy. I think it's because it is summer time and fruits and vegetables are available in abundance. I feel healthy and think I look healthy as well. The junk food was inevitable, but, I keopt it to a bare minimum. I stopped cooking a lot as I found whenever I cook, i would make things such as pizza, pastas and other rather heavy foods.

Although my personal goal did not include our in-class training, I know for a fact that I improved as all the final scores were also my best ones so far. Overall I am very happy with my progress, and just because P.E class is over, it doesn't mean my self-improvement and work has to stop.

activity log week 8

Last week on my jog, I went down to  the quay and ran from the giant tin man to the bridge. By the fountain, I came across a friendly car who insisted I stopped and give him some attention. I couldn't resist the temptation, I pet the car out of him:) my jog lasted about 35 minutes. After the bridge, I ended up by the car dealership on marine. U then ran uphill until 10th and home from there. Another memorable run!

MMA class #2

Today, in MMA class, we learned new skills. All mostly for self defense. I enjoyed the class from Start to end. However, I was a little bit uneasy at the end when we had to pair up and wrestle in front of the entire class. This doesn't mean that I don't want to attend another lesson, just hope there is no show at the end! I also inquired about the one week free trial that Goldie offers in his gym. Once things are a little quieter in my life, I will definitely take up on that offer!

PHysical activity log Week 7

This week I went jogging! I go jogging 3-4 times a week but I don't always mention it. This one was particularly nice as I discovered something new. I used to despise the act of jogging, doing it only for the physical benefits. What made this jog different is that I started appreciating the visual aspect of this activity. I used to run same route every time boring myself quickly, and therefore making the run difficult to complete. This time, I ran where the wind blew. It was much more exciting as I was discovering new areas and learning the new west suburbs. It was actually really cool as I found a couple of very groovy looking houses. Some of them being very old dating back to the 1800's. Needless to say, I am never stickiong to one single path .

Physical activity week 6

On week 6, I went to the gym and actually remembered to take a picture! I went to the gym at about 8:00pm. I started off with some stretches ( as always) and when that was done, I hopped on the country ski elliptical machine. I chose the manual program, put in my weight, age. level 5 and set it to  35 minutes.I started feeling the sweat within 5 but it's on my last 10 minutes that I started dying. As my entire life flashed in front on my eyes, I decided to take a picture and leave something behind. However, as I was taking the picture, it gave me a minute to breathe. Second wind kicked in. I then decided that I can push it to the end.

After the dreadful 6 remaining minutes, the machine congratulated me and kindly beeped me off. 348.8 calories down!!!!!

After my cardio workout, I did 20 minutes of weight lifting and 5 minutes of push-ups, sit-ups and squats.

There is my weekly activity blog, hope you enjoyed reading as much as i enjoyed sweating!

My MMA Experience

I loved it. It was an engaging class that kept me wanting more after the hour was up. I am looking into starting training on a regular basis. It is pricey and time consuming. Therefore, I have decided to start in September when I'll be done school and will be a little more stable financially. I've learned quite a bit not only about the technical side of self-defense, but also the attitude that needs to go along with the newly acquired skills. Do I want to go back? Definitely! I had a blast and it is a great way to get your heartbeat up and burn some energy. Also, when I came home after that class, instead of feeling tired like I usually do, I felt full of energy and ready to do more with my day. Needless to say, cannot wait until next Tuesday to learn some new tricks and kick some butt!( my own butt of course)

Fitness- Active Living- self assessment

I can proudly say I have always been enthusiastic towards all the activities done in class or on the field. I like to think that I am not one of those people that complains a lot or always asks about finish time. However, I must admit that my attendance could be better.though it seems i get pulled away from school for personal reasons . My other weakness in P.E class is the blogging component. I haven't been logging in and updating as often as I should, or could;0

I really believe that for our success as a class, it is important to encourage each other. whether we excel or not. Leadership is patience, encouragement and concern. We can all be leaders and inspire each other by doing our best. That's why I think it would be difficult to name the best leaders in class as we all have it in us. Some just haven't found the desire to show it yet.

I am really excited to start weight training up at the high school so i can start improving my physical shape. This doesn't mean I haven't been physically active outside of class, just that I haven't been blogging about it!
I have been proudly sticking to a regular jogging routine combined with a healthier diet. I have added a considerable amount of fruit and vegetables and CONSIDERABLY reduced my intake of starchy foods and sugar. My water consumption has also dramatically improved. While at school, I am constantly walking around with my big Christmas cup full of water. Mind you I am using the ladies room abnormally often. In my body, it seems to be :
250ml = 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000ml in my body = 79864215 pees

Why PE 12

I am very excited to be part of the PE class. Not only are D'Alice and Tim make a great teaching team, but also I think it's an awesome opportunity to improve my health, my habits and my overall health.Summer is around the corner and it is my greatest motivator to get fit. It is a time to be outside and active! I have many personal fitness/health goals thought out in my head, now it is time to apply them. I want to improve my cardio and strengthen my body. I am most excited about going to the New Westminster Secondary gym. This is a new beginning and I will make the best of it!

I feel this isn't a necessarily difficult plan to stick to, and If all goes well, I should see my beach stomach magically appear on the morning of July 1ST.

I will be seeing you soon, Ab fairy.....sooooooonnnn.....................

Food Matters Post-Screening discussion questions

Food Matters!

Questions:

1.Has seeing Food Matters changed any of your attitudes towards food or disease?
A: Although I am already a firm believer in the idea that food matters, as I was watching the documentary I realized that I've been slightly dropping the ball. I have been a vegetarian for the past year and half and in the beginning of my dieting journey, my food selection was rather picky. Seeing ''Food Matters" has reminded me of all the reasons I had made those changes to my lifestyle and inspired me all over again!

2. For you, what is the most concrete idea/lesson that you will take from the film?
A: I believe the most important message from the movie is that you are what you eat. Our bodies respond to processed /cooked foods as toxins and causes our system to attack itself by releasing leukocytes. Therefore, it is important that we consume a minimum of 51% raw food in every and each meal we consume. Today, many people suffer from malnutrition although they eat enough if not too much food. The problem- the food we eat is wrong for us. Through the process of cooking, enzymes and vitamins are taken away from our food making it empty and worthless. The documentary also insisted that supplementing ourselves with vitamins is a vital requirement as vitamins provide our bodies with the ability to not only prevent illness, but also heal itself.

3. What is one concrete idea that you can implement in your own life to improve your health and the health of your family?
A: Since my entire family followed in my footsteps and adapted a vegetarian diet, the next step to improve our lives would be to slowly move on to a raw food diet. The challenge I see in doing so is that we live in a world where it is difficult to separate ourselves from the rest of the world. It makes eating out or eating with others difficult. I know from my own experience how annoying picky eaters can be when everyone is trying to enjoy a meal together.

4. What is one concrete idea that you can implement in your community to improve health and well-being?
A: I have always wanted a garden where I could grow my own vegetables and fruit. I find it very relaxing to spend an afternoon taking care and growing something of your own. Some neighborhoods downtown and East Vancouver have community gardens and I have always been jealous of the people that had one to call their own.I think New Westminster could benefit from a community garden as it is something many people could develop a liking towards while physically benefiting from it.
